Summer Hairstyle

This very popular summer hairstyle is similar to the braids you can pay the locals in the Caribbean to put in your hair, yet it is easy to do yourself. It's a great style to put in your hair if you are planning on swimming, camping, or simply just don't want to do your hair for a couple of days.

Submit a photo of your hairstyle here. Materials Needed:

  • Comb
  • Approximately 15-18 small rubber bands
  • Optional: Silicone Serum to protect hair from chlorine and copper when swimming.

Hair Preparation:

Wash hair and leave wet. If you are going to be swimming in a pool, apply a silicone serum to protect your hair from chlorine and copper.

Step #1

Taking your comb, separate a 1-1.5 inch rectangular section of hair from your hairline. Secure with a small rubber band. Create a row of approximately 4-6 rectangular sections along your hairline. Depending upon your hair thickness, this will be anywhere from 4-6 sections secured with rubber bands.

Step #2

Split one of the small ponytails into two sections of hair. Take the ponytail next to this, and separate this pony also into two equal parts. Take 1/2 of one ponytail and combine it with 1/2 of the other ponytail and secure it with a rubber band. (picture below)

Step #3

Don't split the ponytails in half that are closest to your ears. Simply combine that entire ponytail with 1/2 of the ponytail next to it. When you get done with the second row of rubber bands it should look like this:

Step #4

Flip the entire banded "net" forward so that it exposes all of the hair underneath.

Step #5

Following the rectangular sections of the first row, separate out a rectangular section directly behind one of the sections in the first row.

Step #6

Split the ponytails on either side of this section into two parts. Combine 1/2 of each ponytail with the entire section you separated out in step #5, and secure with a small ponytail holder.

Step #7

Repeat steps 5 and 6 with another section of hair - making sure to line it up with one of the sections of the first row. (You should have as many ponytails in this last row as you have in the first row.)

Tip: When you get to the ponytail that is closest to each ear, combine the entire section with 1/2 of the ponytail next to it - (Since there is not a ponytail on both sides of this section).
