Low Ponytail

low ponytail

The low ponytail is the perfect option for shorter hair that can not reach into a high ponytail. Ponytails are traditionally thought of as something for kids, but wearing the ponytail low on the head is sophisticated looking and can easily be worn for business or casual wear.

These ponytails are a great option for unruly or messy hair that needs to be tamed and brought under submission. As well as a sophisticated and great way to tame your tresses, the low ponytails are easy to style your hair in. See the directions below.

Submit a photo of your ponytail hairstyle here.

Step #1

This is a preliminary step to help your hair look great from the sides and front - especially if you have thin, or flat hair.

Option 1:

If you have thin hair, or want a "bump" on the top of your head, gently back-comb the hair on the top of your head and brush gently over the top to create some height and lift.

Option 2: - This is less damaging to your hair than option one, as you will not need to do the extensive back-combing.

Use Bump Up the Volume clip-in hair extensions to create lift and height on the top of the head as well as a thicker more voluminous ponytail. Pictured beneath are before and after photos of my ponytail without the clip in extensions (left) and with the extensions (on the right).

Step #2

Gather all of the hair together at the nape of the neck.

Step #3

Use a coated elastic ponytail holder and pull the hair through the center of the elastic.

Step #4

In order to tighten the elastic so that it holds the ponytail in place, pull the elastic and flip it over - thereby creating another loop. Pull the ends of the ponytail through this loop.

Step #5

If the elastic is still not tight enough to hold the ponytail securely in place, repeat step 4 as many times as needed to get the elastic secure.

Optional: Lightly mist with hairspray and smooth back baby hairs with a fine-tooth comb.
