High Ponytail

This high ponytail is reminiscent of the 1960's but very popular today. It is a great casual style, but also looks great as a night-out hairdo. Complete the look with big hoop earrings and false eyelashes.

Materials Needed:

• Bobby pins the shade of your hair
• 1 rubber band
• A small tooth comb
• Hairspray
• Either a large barrel curling iron or a ceramic flat iron that curls
• Optional: Buy ponytail hair extensions, create a beautiful high ponytail and skip all of the directions below.

Hair preparation: Start with a clean head of hair. If your hair is curly, straighten your hair first with your flat iron, or blow-dry it straight with a paddle or round brush after washing it.

Step #1

Pull all your hair into a high, tight ponytail on the crown of the back of your head. Use a small-tooth comb to comb hair back into the ponytail so that there are no bumps or lumps. Make sure all hair goes back into the ponytail smoothly. Use hairspray or a smoothing product to smooth fly-away hairs and shorter pieces into place.

Take a small 1 inch section of hair from the underside of the ponytail and wrap it around the ponytail holder. Bobby pin the ends under the ponytail holder. Make sure the bobby pin goes under the ponytail holder and is hidden from view.

Either take a large-barrel curling iron and curl the ends of the ponytail under, or take your flat iron and smooth sections of hair straight and then turn the ends under. The flat iron will smooth fly-aways and make your ponytail shiny. We chose to use the flat iron:

Start back-combing the hair of the ponytail with a fine-tooth comb near the base of the ponytail. As you back-comb sections, flip them forward until you have back-combed all of the hair of the ponytail.

After all the hair is back-combed and thrown forward, flip your head back and smooth the hair on top over the ponytail. Spray the top of the ponytail so it remains in the high position.
