Try this Easy Prom Hair Style and
Save Money on Prom!

If you can style your hair in a ponytail, then you can do this easy prom hair style yourself. It is so simple to do, yet it looks like someone took hours to pin your hair up just perfectly in a loose and tousled way.

Did you look great at a formal event? Submit your photo here. Materials needed:
  • 1 rubber band the color of your hair
  • Bobby pins the shade of your hair
  • Hair spray
  • Hot rollers
  • Optional: A hair flower that matches your dress.
  • Optional: Clip-in hair extensions - for added length, volume and shine.

This easy prom hair style is for straight, curly or wavy hair. Your hair length needs to be long enough to put in a ponytail and have about three inches of hair hang out of the ponytail.

Hair Preparation:

If you have naturally curly or frizzy hair, then you will first need to straighten your hair to achieve the look we have here. I suggest that you straighten your hair with a blow dryer and round brush verses the GHD iron for straightening.

Because the GHD iron is so powerful in straightening your hair and making it stay that way, it may be hard to get waves in your hair after you have straightened it using this method.

If you have naturally wavy hair, that is fine; you do not need to straighten it first.

To achieve the wavy, tousled look we have here, heat up your hot rollers and follow the directions to wavy hair (this link opens in a new window) first. Then when your hair is wavy, go on to follow the steps below.

Note: You do not need to make your hair wavy first. You can do this style on curly or straight hair also, but it will not look exactly the same as the pictures here. Experiment and see what you like best on you!

Step #1

Pull hair into a loose ponytail at the base of the head. Wrap elastic around a couple of times (remember to keep it loose)

Step #2

Separate the hair above the ponytail holder, making a hole above the top of the elastic pony tail holder so that there is room to slip hair in.

Step #3

Lift the pony up and pull the ends of the ponytail down into the hole. Here are pictures of the process:

Pull some tendrils down on the side of your head to soften your look.(Shown below)

Step #4(Optional)

You can either add hair jewels or a flower to add sophistication.
