Curling Hair With Flat Iron

Curling hair with a Flat Iron? Yes, some flat irons such as the GHD create beautiful curls that lock in shine. This is a great way to curl fine, thin hair because it adds a lot of body and bounce to the hair, while still maintaining a beautiful shine.

Materials needed:

  • A high-end flat iron that curls, such as the GHD (that's what I'm using).
  • A heat protector for your hair such as GHD Thermal Protector

Hair Preparation: After you have washed your hair, towel dry it, and spray with a heat protector. Blow dry your hair and make sure that all of the hair is completely dry, or you may scorch your hair or get uneven curls.

Step #1

Take a one inch section of hair and smooth it out with a comb or your fingers. Clasp the hair at the roots with the flat iron in a vertical position.

Step #2

Rotate your wrist under and start to pull the flat iron away from the head with the wrist turned under. Keep the wrist turned as you pull the hair slowly and gently through the iron. The technique of curling hair with a flat iron is a lot like pulling ribbon out with the blade of a scissors to make the ribbon "curly".

As you can see, the iron creates a medium-sized spiral curl.

Step #3

Continue clasping hair and rotating the wrist under with one inch sections of hair until you have curled your entire head.
