Chignon Hairstyle

A chignon hairstyle is typically a bun-like style worn low on the back of the head. The word “chignon” comes from the French phrase “chignon du cou,” which means nape of the neck.

Some may call a basic bun a chignon hairstyle, but the Hairstyles Teacher only classifies something as a chignon if it is elegant and can be worn for both formal or business attire. Chignons are classy, elegant and can make a woman appear sophisticated.

The easiest way to make a chignon, is to not have to do it at all. Try one of these hair wrap pieces (such as the one pictured below on Jessica Simpson).

To style hair like this, simply pull all of your hair into a low ponytail, twist your hair up into a bun and secure with bobby pins. Apply the chignon hair piece over your bun.
