This bouffant hair style is a combo of the sixties and today's Sedu styles.

Bouffant hair made by excessive back-combing was a sign of the times in the sixties. It is modern today to see the "bouf" just on the top of the head and the rest of the hair relaxed around the head.

The bouffant top of this hairstyle can be created higher or lower depending on how much back-combing you do.

If you do not want to risk damaging your hair from back-combing, want longer, thicker, shinier hair and to create the style here easily and effortlessly, try clip-in hair extensions.

After you have straightened (this link opens in a new window) your hair with a flat iron, follow the steps below to complete this hair style:

Step #1

Separate bangs from the rest of the hair and clip up.

Note: You must have long bangs to do this hairstyle as shown.

If not, you could simply just leave your bangs down and move the "bouf" back behind your bangs, or hair spray your bangs up and over.

Step #2

Take the hair from directly behind the bangs and back-comb it.

Step #3

Take this back-combed hair, lightly curl it over you fingers, and bobby-pin it under - making a “messy roll”.

Step #4

Remove your bangs from the clip and smooth them up and over the roll. Pin this hair behind and into the roll (hiding the bobby pins).

To effectively bobby pin your bangs over, open the bobby pin and grab hair on the sides of the “bouf” and then turn the bobby pin and hide it under the “bouf”. You will need to do this with 2-3 bobby pins to effectively hold all of your bangs.
